Is sulfonation unsafe and environmentally hazardous?
Absolutely not. Due to Sulfo Technologies' proprietary process, sulfonation is completely safe and environmentally benign. Sulfo Technologies generates sulfur trioxide on demand and therefore does not store sulfur trioxide on the premises.
Isn't sulfonation uncontrollable?
No. Again, due to Sulfo Technologies' proprietary process, sulfonation is now reliable, repeatable and controllable.
Does sulfonation add elemental sulfur to fuel?
No. Following sulfonation, the sulfur present is in a sulfur six (S VI) oxidation state; therefore, it is chemically impossible to revert to elemental sulfur and thus be added to fuel.
Is sulfonation destructive to POM, fuel sensor cards and catalytic converters?
Proprietary neutralization steps eliminate acidic sulfonic acid groups and enhance barrier properties.
Does sulfonation leave an acidic residue on the parts and presents a hazard to material handlers?
Absolutely not. Surface pH is tested following Sulfo's proprietary neutralization process to ensure parts have a neutral pH.
Is sulfonation the same as fluorination?
Sulfonation is superior to fluorination. Unlike fluorination, sulfonation is extremely durable and environmentally benign. The entire intent to restrict hydrocarbon permeation is to improve the environment. The fluorination process results in the release of extremely harmful fluorocarbons which are known to deplete the ozone.
